Quarantine Women — Study I & II
Quarantine Women — Study I & II
Quarantine Women — Study I & II Oil on canvas paper mounted on canvas | 30 × 60 cm each | 2023
Part of the few surviving studies painted on the island of Menorca during the Quarantine Art Residency — a radical creative experiment that brought together artists in isolation to make work under pressure and constraint. The rest of the artwork was burned onsite before Yaya’s eyes in a cathartic ritual at the end of the residency.
Painted under the mentorship of Henrik Uldelen, these companion pieces capture two women in quiet contemplation. The first turns away in profile against a sea-green ground, her face caught in warm amber light. The second faces forward beneath a deep blue hood, her features built from bold, confident planes of tone. Together they hold a tension between withdrawal and presence, shadow and exposure.
Sold as a pair but can be sold separately for 450€ each
